Il confessionale (1998)

A church in Italy has members doing the naughty naughty. The father, the sisters, some of the patrons - all are doing in, and primarily are doing it with that one lead character - the church priest. The girls are beautiful.

The Confessional is a 1998 pornographic film directed by Jenny Forte. The temptations and confessions that the ex-priest protagonist makes in front of the altar of the isolated church, in which he reveals that he has repeatedly broken religious chastity. Initially, one of the women who go to confession in church leads him into temptation and with her he violates his vow for the first time. Then two nuns and a bride who is about to go to the altar allow him new experiences inside the church. Finally he is discovered by the father of the first victim, who furiously leads him to leave his ecclesiastical role.

The film was produced by Mario Salieri . The film was shot in the church of San Vincenzo in Gioia dei Marsi , in Abruzzo . It was released on November 15, 1998.

The film created a scandal and was subsequently accused of insulting religion for being filmed in a consecrated place.

BBC News: Church sullied by secret porn film

A bishop will have to re-bless weddings that took place in an Italian village church after it was discovered it had been used as a location for a porn film.

"All ceremonies performed here since this scandalous act are illicit," Father Paolo Ferrini of San Vincenzo said.

A worried member of the congregation alerted police to the outrage when he spotted the church in the porn film Il Confessionale (The Confessional Box).

The police studied the film closely and confirmed the church at San Vincenzo was indeed the backdrop to a scene in which a man dressed as a priest has sex with a bride.

The priest who had approved the shoot said he had been told by the film crew that the church was to be used for a wedding scene.

A bishop will now have to issue a new decree to make all the weddings, christening and funerals which have taken place over the past five years valid.

All religious ceremonies have been halted until the church can be purified.

The bishop of a diocese in the uplands of central Italy was last night mulling over whether to reconsecrate one of his churches following the discovery that it had been used to film a hardcore pornographic movie five years ago.

Couples from all over Italy are married in the picturesque church of San Vincenzo at Gioia Vecchio in the Abruzzo region, and questions have been raised about the validity of the hundreds of marriages celebrated since 1998, when the film was made.

Prosecutors announced that they were looking into whether to bring blasphemy charges against the producers. The diocesan authorities said they were investigating how access to the 13th century church was provided for the filming of a scene in which a cleric has sex with a bride.

The parish priest at the time, Father Artemio De Vincentiis, 83, said: "I gave the keys to the owner of the restaurant opposite and he was taken in."

Some local people suggested that those involved had been naive.

"What did they think they were making with those girls in there? Animated cartoons?" asked Massimo Frazi, a dentist.

Blasphemous pornography is popular in Italy despite or, more likely, because of the influence of the Roman Catholic church.

But as its publicity made clear, Il Confessionale (The Confessional Box) offered the extra thrill of having been "filmed in a real church".

Described by one specialist website as "very hot Italian porno", the movie tells the story of a priest who "begins to give in to his sexual urges with young women who visit him for confession".

It stars Joe Calzone (otherwise known for his roles in such monothematic dramas as Amsterdam Nights) and Monica Roccaforte, who has also featured in Sacred and Profane and The Return of Father Tonino, both hardcore films. The link between Il Confessionale and the church of San Vincenzo came to light when the film was downloaded from the internet by a man living in the area who took it to the police.

The Catholic church's code of laws states that sacred places which have been profaned ought not to be used until the act has been undone by "penitential rites".

But ecclesiastical lawyers yesterday assured couples who had wed at the church that they remained married.

Alfonso Corsi, who practises at the Sacra Rota court in Rome, said: "It's just a liturgical problem, and not a juridical one."

vilipendio. Sarà però il vescovo di Avezzano, mons. Lucio Renna, a stabilire se la chiesa profanata dal film porno debba essere riconsacrata. Con assoluta certezza, però, i sacramenti celebrati in buona fede nella chiesa di Gioia dei Marsi restano validi. Lo precisano fonti cattoliche consultate dall'agenzia Agi.

I CARABINIERI - Il sequestro della cassetta è stato eseguito dai Carabinieri di Avezzano insieme ai colleghi di Gioia dei Marsi. Oltre alle accuse ad attori e regista, che avevano comunque chiesto il permesso di utilizzare la chiesa per ambientarvi un film, ora, secondo il diritto canonico, potrebbe essere necessario «riabilitare» tutti i matrimoni, le comunioni e gli altri riti celebrati nella struttura a partire, appunto, dal 1998, quando sotto le navate della chiesa furono girate le scene incriminate. Gioia Vecchio, ai confini del Parco nazionale d'Abruzzo, è un caratteristico borgo frequentato saltuariamente da persone che hanno ristrutturato case antiche e nel quale da due anni si svolge un festival internazionale del teatro.

IL DIRITTO CANONICO - Il film, intitolato «Il Confessionale» è in commercio regolarmente, con tanto di timbro della Siae. A scoprire la vicenda è stato, qualche mese fa, un cittadino di Gioia dei Marsi il quale, guardando il film riconobbe la facciata della chiesa di Ortona dei Marsi, un centro limitrofo. L'uomo si recò dal maresciallo dei carabinieri Loreto Ferrari che, nel visionare la pellicola, si accorse, però, che l'interno della chiesa trasformata in set porno non era quello di Ortona. Con il tempo e pazienti sopralluoghi nelle chiese della Marsica, i carabinieri guidati dal tenente Giancarlo Santagata, comandante della compagnia di Avezzano, hanno scoperto, attraverso una lapide, che il set interno era stato allestito nella chiesa consacrata di Gioia Vecchio.

LE INDAGINI - Dalle indagini, coordinate dal Pm Stefano Gallo, è emerso che il parroco dell'epoca aveva acconsentito a far girare le scene in quanto gli era stato riferito che si trattava di riprese di un matrimonio in un normale film. E, in effetti, sul set esterno vi erano prete, invitati e sposi regolarmente vestiti e in atteggiamenti compiti. In quello interno, invece, accessibile solo alla produzione e al cast, furono poi girate, con due attori - uno impersonava un prete, l'altra la sposa - le scene hard.

LO SCANDALO - Da allora - secondo quanto riferito dall'attuale parroco di Gioia dei Marsi, don Paolo Ferrini - le cerimonie potrebbero essere considerate illecite. L'art. 1211 del diritto canonico recita, infatti: «Tutte le cerimonie celebrate dopo ogni atto scandaloso, grave e contrario alla santità del luogo, comporta la profanazione del luogo stesso». Secondo don Paolo, quindi, occorrerà un decreto di riabilitazione da parte del vescovo dei Marsi per «riabilitare» tutti i riti religiosi celebrati dal 1998 ad oggi nella chiesa di San Vincenzo. Intanto i carabinieri hanno rimesso un rapporto dettagliato al magistrato, indicando titolo del film, nomi di produttore, regista, attori - almeno dieci pornostar italiane e straniere - e qualche copia sequestrata in negozi della Marsica. Nei confronti delle persone coinvolte, è stata presentata denuncia per vilipedio alla chiesa.
